Gaza Encampment at USF
On April 29th students at the University of South Florida attempted to establish an encampment in solidarity with Gaza. As students attempted to assemble a tent university police immediately moved in to arrest students. Students attempted to form a protective circle which police broke through, ultimately arresting 3 people.
The next day approximately 100 students and community members returned and attempted to establish an encampment for a second time. Anticipating an aggressive police response, protesters wielded umbrellas and wooden shields in an attempt to block rubber bullets and chemical agents. Around 4:30PM hundreds of police officers began amassing, most clad in riot gear and armed. Shortly after 5:00PM police deployed tear gas and used rubber bullets and proceeded to arrest 10 people.
